Slatesystem PU is a special formulation of diphenylmethane-4, 4-diisocyanate adhesive, developed to adhere Aarondec or Tiletech promenade tiles to bituminous felt and sanded asphalt.

Its unique feature is its ability to expand with atmospheric moisture to provide a firm base on the underside of the tile. It can be used affectively in damp and humid conditions which normally prevent tiling work being carried out

The Correct Amount of Adhesive

The thickness of the beads and blobs of adhesive applied must be within the necessary tolerances to ensure even expansion on each tile and a level area when completed. The applicator bottle nozzle should be cut as indicated to ensure correct bead size.

Aarondec/Diamond Cut Tiles

Area to be tiled must be free of dust, grease and foreign matter. The surface can be damp but not wet. Not more than six tiles should be prepared for laying at one time, to ensure that the adhesive does not expand before the tiles are in position.

Applying the Adhesive

A 20mm adhesive-free border should be left around the edge of each tile for handling and to allow the adhesive to expand fully to the corners and edges. Adhesive should be laid in beads approximately 3mm high.

Ensure that the beads extend to the corners of the inner area. Follow same procedure for part tiles.

Tiletech Tiles

Adhesive is placed in 4 x 6g blobs to the underside of the tile. It is then placed on the substrate, adjusted for level and alignment and the adhesive blob pressed to achieve a bond.

Storing Adhesives

Unused adhesive can be stored in the bottle. Expel as much air as possible by squeezing the sides and seal nozzle using the attached cap to keep adhesive in a usable condition.

Laying

Do not lay on surfaces affected by frost or in tempertures below .After application of adhesive tiles simply need to be positioned and gently pressed onto the substrate to achieve good contact.

Note: Certain felts have a talcum or similar release agent applied. This has to be removed or adhesion will be impaired. If in doubt , ask for sample of adhesive for your own evaluation.

Points to Remember

Asphalt Substrates - Under no circumstances must Aarondec or Tiletec be laid in hot bitumen
on asphalt substrates. Use only Slatesystem PU adhesive.
Cold Bitumen - Cold applied bitumen adhesive containing solvents can damage felt and /or asphalt.
An adhesive approved for the purpose should be used.
In cold/wet/damp conditions drying times may be affected. If tiles are not fully bedded, before the
adhesive has dried, rainfall may cause it to emulsify, leading to staining and/or loss of adhesion. Water
based products must not be used where there is a risk of frost or freezing conditions.
Cleaning - Acid based cleaning products must not be used. Test clean on a small area before use.
